KARIAN AMAYA - RUINAS DEL PAISAJE
JUNE 5-SEPTEMBER, 2025
Through sculptures of marble, copper, and glass, Guadalajara-based artist KARIAN AMAYA invites viewers to explore the profound relationship between mining, landscape, and memory. The works engage in a dialogue with the history and transformation of the land, drawing inspiration from Mexico’s open-pit mines.
RUINAS DEL PAISAJE emerges from the interplay of materials, forms, and sounds that reflect the mining industry’s impact on both the natural environment and cultural identity. Blown glass pieces, representing the elemental forces behind the formation of marble and copper, complement the installation. The glass forms—functioning as vessels—symbolize air as the shaping force of these raw materials. Inside, fragments of marble and copper rest, illustrating the interaction between nature and human labor.
The exhibition also features a special collaboration between the Department of Projects, Innovation, and Cultural Policies of the Secretary of Culture of the State of Chihuahua and the National Fonoteca of Mexico, coordinated by Tito Rivas. This partnership contributes a series of sound pieces based on desert field recordings, enriching the sensory and conceptual depth of the experience.
Special thanks to the City of Marfa for their generous support and to Siete Legas.
